Grain Protection Specialist - Permanent

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced in managing and handling Dangerous Goods with a background in postharvest fumigation to join our Grain Protection Team

Working closely with the Grain Protection Manager you will be responsible for providing Grain Protection technical support to the Operations team and assist in the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of grain protection and fumigation protocols.


Key responsibilities include

  • Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of documents relating to the controls in place for the Fumigation and Dangerous Goods critical risks. 
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for Fumigation and Dangerous Goods related management.
  • Identify and communicate best practice fumigation methods to internal CBH audiences
  • Work with government and university organisations to improve the rigor and relevance of science to ensure that it can be readily applied and communicated to the grains industry
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of grain protection related documentation to ensure ongoing compliance with relevant regulatory requirements


Skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Science (i.e. entomology) and/or related discipline/relevant experience is highly desirable
  • Be familiar with the relevant regulations around Fumigation and Dangerous Goods Storage, Handing and Transport
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to produce high quality written documentation, including status reports & business cases.
  • Proven strength of leadership and coaching skills Advanced computer skills (Word, Windows, Excel, Database)
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to show strong initiative
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in Fumigation related activities including Dangerous Goods Management and Pesticide safety activities
