Operations Supervisor - MGC

We are currently seeking a safety focused Operations Supervisor to join our team at Metro Grain Centre on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will oversee the day to day operations, and safely drive site performance and efficiency in our container packing facility and grain supply chain.  This role is required to lead the frontline operators to build capability and optimise site operations for efficiency and productivity.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure frontline teams are trained and competent to perform their duties in accordance with company procedures
  • Carry out field leadership including the identification and rectification of any hazards or hazardous working practices
  • Maintain a hygiene standard on site to minimise dust hazards and reduce contaminants to grain supply
  • Provide coaching and guidance to frontline staff to build capabilities and enhance staff engagement
  • Set up daily shift activities to safely drive productivity and achieve daily production KPIs
  • Ensure frontline operators are resourced to achieve daily operational requirements and to achieve daily production targets for container packing and grain receivals and/or outturn
  • Co-ordinate daily activities to ensure consistent production performance and reduce plant operating downtime and support container packing
  • Manage and monitor productivity and performance of the staff loading containers
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Superintendent to ensure plant availability to perform preventative and corrective maintenance.



Skills and Experience


  • Minimum five experience working in an operational setting, preferably a logistical supply chain or heavy industry.
  • Knowledge of Quality and Food Safety issues from an industry perspective
  • Strong focus on safety with the ability to demonstrate previous experience of improving safety leadership
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work autonomously
  • Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office software, particularly MS Excel
  • Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team
  • Possession of a valid HR driver's licence
  • Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and in areas with high dust concentrations


  • Trained in ISO 9001, HACCP methodology 
  • Appointed as an Authorised Officer (AO) with the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DOWAR) and experience with the Export Control Act (1982).
  • Sampling experience
  • Grain/Food Industry experience


These roles require you to work a roster shift pattern of Monday-Friday, rotating day, afternoon and night shifts.
