The Role
The Specialist – Hazardous Areas is the designated Hazardous Area Responsible Person (HARP) and is accountable for ensuring the safe installation, inspection, maintenance and documentation of all electrical and instrumentation equipment within hazardous areas.
This exciting new role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with Australian Standards (including AS/NZS IEC 60079), statutory obligations and CBH policies across our coastal and zone-based operations.
This is a 2-year fixed-term zone-based position.
Locations
We are seeking six Specialist – Hazardous Areas to support CBH operations across key coastal and zone-based locations. Each position is aligned to a designated zone and provides specialist oversight across multiple sites within that zone.

- Geraldton Zone
- Kwinana North Zone
- Kwinana Grain Terminal
- Kwinana South Zone/Metro Grain Centre
- Albany Zone
- Esperance Zone
Responsibilities include:
- Acting as the competent authority for hazardous area compliance, inspections and audits
- Building and maintaining hazardous area dossiers and equipment registers in line with legislative requirements
- Overseeing Ex inspections (visual, close and detailed) and ensuring non-conformances are rectified
- Providing technical guidance, training and support to maintenance, operations and HSE teams
About You:
You are a safety-focused technical specialist with a strong background in hazardous area compliance and electrical systems, who leads with integrity and attention to detail.
Key attributes include:
- Electrical trade qualification with hazardous area competency certification
- Strong working knowledge of AS/NZS IEC 60079 standards
- Experience with Ex inspection systems and maintenance management software
- High attention to detail, strong documentation skills and a compliance-first mindset
- Ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
