The role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join the IT Operation Services team. The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for supporting the design, installation, monitoring, maintenance, and performance tuning of production and development databases, while ensuring high levels of data availability.


Key responsibilities

  • Ensure application database availability
  • Performance tuning of databases
  • Monitoring and alerting
  • Support the development of long-term strategic goals for production services in conjunction with application owners and department managers
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Take accountability for the follow through of requests and incidents and liaise with customers and users to resolve any outstanding concerns
  • Provide specialist expertise, technical advice and input for ICT services and operations
  • Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones.
  • Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity.


Skills and experience


  • Degree, diploma or certificate in Information Systems or a similar discipline and/or 3-5 years equivalent work experience
  • Microsoft Certification in 2012-2016 or relevant Windows experience in a SQL Server environment preferably with some development background.
  • Ability to assist with best practices
  • Working knowledge of TSQL, ETL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
  • Experience in Database maintenance, Indexing and Performance tuning/monitoring
  • Demonstrated experience in systems, security, network and directory services administration
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Windows Networking
  • Ability to be on call for out of hours support
  • Possession of C class Driver’s License


  • Experience in Power BI, Azure and AWS
  • Exposure to virtualisation technology
  • Exposure to Raven DB or similar Document Database
  • Exposure to Oracle and WebLogic
